Probably one of the most famous cars in the world has been sold at an auction at the 16th annual Spring Motor Fair at Kruse Auction Park.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang the car that can fly, travel on water and use the roads too has always been a favorite with the kids and adults alike, the film that starred Dick van Dyke was made in the late sixties and more recently has become a stage musical launched the car into the unsuspecting world and ever since has been up there with all the top film characters.
The car was sold for $505,000 to Ralph Spencer of Jasksonville, Florida, bought the car for his collection, he already owns a 1966 model Bat mobile and has been keen on buying the famous flying car for some time as he is a fan of the film, he wasted no time in making sure that his bid was the highest.
Jim Rich, owner of the Chicago restaurant, sold JR’s Retreat, the car where the car has been on display, the sale was made in order for him to pay off a bankruptcy debt.
The price must have been a bit of a disappointment though, because back in 1998, Dean Kruse, President of Kruse Auction Park actually appraised the car at around $980,000, so some slight depreciation there then!
