Common Negotiating Tricks the Dealers Use

Dealer tricksIf you plan on purchasing a new, or even a used car from a dealer in the near future, there are some tricks that you should be well aware of when you’re about to go out there, and purchase your car.  Some people think dealers are shady, while others seem rather comfortable with them.  I’ll let you decide on what you think.

“It’s time to make a deal”

Never let the car salesman know that you’re extremely interested in a car.  If they see your eyes light up, they are going to pressure you into the sale.  If you don’t want to be bothered with the sales crew, I would recommend that you do your research online, and visit the lots when they are closed.

“I need to get my manager”

If you’re the type that loves to make a deal, that’s great!  Most of the times though, you’re going to find that the level one sales guy isn’t going to be able to authorize the purchase.  Instead of paying full price, you may get double teamed, and that’s okay.  Stand your ground, and never be afraid to walk away.

“What else do we need?”

The dealership doesn’t want you to just leave with all the basics.  Instead, they want to add all those little goodies in such as the floor mats, alloy rims, and more.  If you don’t need them, I wouldn’t recommend that you go out, and add them.

“This deal won’t last”

This is a trick used by many that isn’t even true.  In order to get a sale that day, they are going to tell you that it may not last for long.  Instead of biting the bullet, and buying that day, you’ll want to wait, because I can almost guarantee you that the same deal will be there at the end of the week.

Deals – There are several great deals at an auto auction.  You may find some of the most expensive cars for cheap, and you may find some cars that are in great shape for the price.  There are plenty of deals when it comes to an auction!  Who knows, you may come home with a steal, it’s always worth a shot!

Different kinds – Not only will you find some excellent deals, but most likely you’ll be able to choose through many different cars.  That day they may have SUVs, trucks, cars, vans, and a few different kinds of each.  So, you’re choices are endless!

What you’re looking for – Most of us have an idea of what car we want.  We feel like there is no better car out there, but the price is just a little too high for us to purchase it.  Who knows, maybe at the auto auction they have that car for a cheaper price.  Sometimes you’ll be surprised, auto auctions may have just what you’re looking for.

Before the dealer – You should always just consider going to an auto auction, especially if you’ve never been to one.  It is a good idea to take a trip to one before you go to the dealer.  You will see what they have to offer, what kind of price ranges they have, and then you can compare them to your ordinary dealer.

As you can see, auto auctions have some great perks to them.  Shopping for a car isn’t always the cheapest thing so it is good to do your research, and to try a few different strategies before you purchase your future car!

How to Purchase at The End of Your Lease

Sometimes after we lease a new vehicle, we want to purchase it.  Either we got comfortable with it, and don’t want to let it go.  Or it is a good price, and we are happy with how it runs, and the features it has in it.  Regardless of the reason, purchasing after a lease is possible, so if you’re thinking about considering it, see how the process is done!

The first step you’re going to want to take is to call up the phone number that is listed on your monthly payment (bill).  After you call, you will most likely get an automated voice message system giving you certain options to choose from.  If they say anything like “lease ending options” be sure to go with this option.  Once someone picks up the phone you want to tell them your plans.  Let them know you’re interested in purchasing your leased car.

NOTE: It is a good idea to call ahead of time before the lease ends.  (Don’t wait until the last minute.)

Now, they will most likely give you a price on the car, but if you’re unhappy with the number, ask to talk with someone else, or to make arrangements to meet about this.  They will usually negotiate, so try as much as you can.

Although once you give up the car, you have the chances that either the dealer will put it up for sale at the dealership, or it will go to an auction.  You will find this out through the salesman, or the person you’re talking with on the phone.   Regardless, you will know where it’s at, and how to get ah old of it.  So, whatever happens be in the right place, and try to negotiate the price once it’s up for sale.  Although, if it is up for auction, and there are bids on it, be aggressive to get the car!

How to Compare Cars

So, you’re in the market to buy a car, and like anybody, you want to check out what’s out there, since it’s going to be a relatively big purchase.  When you’re ready to compare cars, there are some steps that you should take in order to figure out which one will work best for you, and your family.

What features do you want? Before you start your search, write down what you want in a car.  You’ll want to name everything that is important to you.  Do you want a sunroof?  Do you need a CD player?  Most cars are going to have the options that you want, but it helps to see what you truly want on paper.

Know your price range. All cars vary in price, and just because one car fits your needs, it doesn’t mean it’s going to be affordable.  When you’re writing down your options, know what you want to spend.  If you’re not really sure on how much you want to spend, I would just mark down a price range that you’re comfortable with.

Always check ratings. Every car has crash test ratings online, and it’s important to see what kind of ratings your potential car has.  Subscribe to magazines such as Car and Driver to get a feel for what’s out on the market.

See user ratings as well. The crash test ratings will get you on the right path, but you’ll want to know what other people think of the car as well.  Hop on message boards online to see what others think of their car.  You’ll usually get a pretty solid idea on what actual drivers like, and dislike when it comes to driving their vehicle.

How much to insure? Every car again, is going to vary in price, and yes, insurance costs are going to be different as well.  If you have a few cars in mind, talk with your insurance agent to see which one best suits you in terms of insurance costs.

Maintenance costs. Maintenance again, is going to vary on your make and model.  Check out sites online such as Edmunds.com to get a fair idea on how much it’s going to cost you yearly to run, and maintain your car.

These are all things that you need to consider when comparing cars.  Like a house, or electronic item, try and pinpoint exactly what you want, because it is out there.  As long as you take your time, the car that you want shall come.
